In 1928 the Plymouth appears, offering technical characteristics of class superior, hydraulics brakes in the four wheels, forced lubrication, pistons of aluminum alloy, a box of speeds of three marches and recoil, motor of 2,790 cc with lateral valves, system of refrigeration by thermosyphon, ascending carburetor, electric start system, rims with wooden spokes and a very comfortable interior with a dashboard with instruments for the measurement of oil pressure, ammeter, and odometer, starter and advance; the latter was used to optimize the operation of the engine especially at the time of ignition for different octanes then had fuels.

The first Plymouth with a 4-cylinder engine and 45 HP of power appeared in June 1928, and at the end of the same year, it recorded production of 58 thousand units. This for Ford and Chevrolet was a real challenge, due to the competition that this car presented, since Chrysler became the third automotive force of the moment.

In 1929, Walter Chrysler also had the assembly lines in Detroit destined solely for the Plymouth.

The YEAR 1930 - FANGIO AS A COMPANION OF BRUJAS FONT


The circuit of "La Chata" of an extension of 12,200 meters on land, was located 10 kilometers from the city of Balcarce bordering the lands of the current Aeroclub. It was practically a trapezoid with a series of very dangerous curves and counter-curves, with a start almost on the current Route 55 that leads to Necochea.

Fangio, 19 years old, worked in the workshop of Vigiano When announcing a zonal race in that circuit "La Chata", his future brother-in-law Brujas Font, proposed him to compete in this test with a Plymouth 4 cylinders model 1929 that he had in society. Brujas Font would be the pilot and Fangio the companion. "El Chueco" accepted and began to tune up the car for the race that was for standard cars.

It happens that the night before the race, the brother of Bruges Font uses a walk with a friend and distracted falls into a ditch hitting the bottom of the Plymouth .. Hurriedly detaches himself from the car, not realizing that he had unbalanced cardan.

As usual, the competition at the "La Chata" circuit generated a real party to see the riders of the area and in the starting line they lined up with the Plymouth, ready to give battle in that exciting sports day, while friends and relatives They waited anxiously for his performance.

But after a short walk, a great vibration appears that delays them and after a couple of turns loosens everything, finally breaking a pipe of naphtha.

In those times that model had placed the Steward system that was very delicate and did not work when there was vibration. They stopped several times to throw naphtha, without a solution for the problem and there the race was finished.
