AFTER THE STEPS OF FANGIO

At the end of 1969 The A.C.A. resolves to form a competition team in order to participate in the European F-2 championship, two Brabham BT30 are acquired and two young pilots are appointed: Carlos Alberto Reutemann and Benedicto Caldarella, two promising of our motorsport who participate with different luck in this category that had riders of the stature of Emerson Fittipaldi, Francois Cevert and Jochen Rindt.

The Santa Fe driver was backed by an important campaign in Turismo Mejorado, T.C., F-1, F-2 National Prototypes. In all of them it stands out as a steering wheel of enormous conditions and its performance in Europe would ratify the correctness of its designation.

The Argentine team makes its debut in the circuit of Hockenheim (Germany) where Reutemann produces explosive labor, punches some laps and finally delays arriving in the 8th. position. The rest of the season sees the Argentinian pilot take hold, gaining in experience to become a permanent animator of the category.

In 1971 the A.C.A. acquires the new Brabham BT36 designed by Ron Tauranac, this new model introduced improvements with respect to the previous one as the fixation of the rear spoiler, on the box and not on the chassis, the suspension of different geometry according to the lower profile tires, the larger brake discs, the total weight of the car was 5 kilos less than the previous one.

The delivery of the cars is delayed and just in the middle of the season, the Argentine team is on track. In the layout of Mantorp Park (England) "Lole" does a great job in his debut on board the new car, a 3rd. final position rewards the outstanding performance of the Argentine. The BT-36 was highly competitive and allowed Carlos Reutemann to reach the last race of the championship with chances to get the title he played with Swede Ronnie Peterson who was crowned champion.

That season aboard the Brabham BT-36 meant the launch of Reutemann to the consideration of the F-1 teams, leaving the goal fulfilled, an Argentine reached the top category to follow the footprint of the five-time champion Juan Manuel Fangio.

CARLOS ALBERTO REUTEMANN

AN EXCEPTIONAL PILOT
He was born in Santa Fe in 1942 and was undoubtedly one of the most successful pilots that our country gave. Participated in almost all national categories; T.M., T.C., F-1 and F-2 national knew the conductive virtues of the "Lole", the same that earned him being called to compete in Europe with the A.C.A team.

He quickly stood out and in 1972 debuted with a Brabham in the F-1. Ten years remained in the highest category demonstrating his qualities of a cold and cerebral pilot, endowed with an exquisite sensitivity to develop a car technically. Brabham, Ferrari, Lotus, and Williams were the teams with which Reutemann achieved its 12 wins in F-1 and be considered a "big" of the '70s.

Carlos Reutemann retires in 1982, but the memory and recognition to the most worthy Argentine representative in the F-1 are still alive after the Fivefold Champion Juan Manuel Fangio.
