THE TECHNIQUE OF MP4 / 10 - 1995

Three versions were built throughout the 1995 season, of which the only thing that was redesigned was the rear part in the aerodynamic aspect, going from the raised wing in the middle, to a wing in front of the rear, and ending in the traditional one.

Everything seems to indicate that the MP4 / 10 is one of the most revolutionary designs of this year's Formula 1. The long-awaited McLaren Mercedes presents radical aerodynamic solutions in its lower part, and a bizarre central spoiler in the air inlet of the engine, almost to the maximum height of the roll bar. This spoiler is one of the answers to the new technical rules designed to drastically reduce the aerodynamic load on F1 cars.

The rule in question has an undefined zone because the regulation defines the front limit as a zone of exclusion of aerodynamic body parts and the end zone will be the rear half of the car.

As in the Williams in the year 94, the McLaren MP4 / 10 uses the raised tube in the style adopted by the Benetton and the Tyrrell since 1991, although the front section is very narrow and shaped like a projectile tip.

The side pontoons are much shorter and their deformable structure uses a completely new technique, developed by Hercules, who was responsible for incorporating small ceramic balls inside the carbon fiber, which will move in case of impact, to dissipate energy.

The radiators are located inclined. Just like last year. The step under the body is 50 cm wide until, when reaching the pilot's seat, it becomes narrower and that's where two vertical plates begin that limit the extractor profile (or diffuser) zone. These plates parallel to each other 50 cm apart are at the same level as the reference plane.

On two parallel channels, on the sides of the central plate, the exhaust pipes pass. All the cars of Formula 1 make abundant use of baffles. The McLaren used their two flaps in front of the rear wheels, which began to use in Monaco in the previous year.

As for the small central spoiler was replaced in some circuits by a smaller one in front of the classic rear spoiler. Also striking is the smaller size of this spoiler, according to the rules in force since 1995.
