Juan Manuel Fangio had won the first World Championship in 1951 with Alfa Romeo 159, when in 1954, at 42 years old, he signed a contract to race with Mercedes-Benz.

Two races with 250F maserati, two wins

When the F1 season starts, the Mercedes-Benz W196 is not yet finished and Fangio is authorized to race the Maserati 250F in the first two races of the year. With her, on January 17, she wins the Argentine Republic Grand Prix at the Autodromo de Buenos Aires and on June 20, the Belgian Grand Prix at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, adding the first points for the 1954 World Championship.

Six races with Mercedes Benz W196, four wins

Race in Switzerland with a lap record, 1st. In classification and 1st. in the race in Italy and 2nd. In classification and 3rd. in Spain. Of the 8 races, he won 6, three of them with the fastest lap. He earned 57 points out of the 72 in play and adventures to his version by 30 points. This season is unforgettable for the motorsports of Argentina, since Fangio and Froilán González, were captains of the Mercedes and Ferrari teams, respectively.
