The coupe Ford de Gálvez
When the desired activities of the war are restarted, in Juan Manuel Fangio's Double Tour of Sierra dela Ventana, Juan Gálvez starts running the first car armed only for him, a standard 1939 coupe. Although in 1953 he assembled another cupe to use in asphalted floor races on a model '37, that of 1939 will accompany him throughout his career, unique in TC.
Although modified and lower, he still used it in 1960, one of his best years, when he won the championship for the last time. However, at the end of the season with the traditional GP, while traveling without lights from the game in Buenos Aires behind Marcos Ciani, he crashed in Pergamino. After two hard impacts to160 km / hen those who lose the trunk, the car falls forward, crushes the radiator, breaks the carburetors and the dynamo, breaks the steering wheel and the back of the chassis is bent up. Juan, on the other hand, hurt himself by damaging a vertebra and a clavicle, so he takes a year of forced rest.
It reappears the following year in the GP of 1961 with the cupe with a new look. Although the bodywork had not been too damaged in the accident (until the doors were healthy) the interval was used to update their lines according to current trends. The works carried out in the workshops of Lozano and Pato, plasterers who collaborated with Juan from long ago, resulted in an almost flat roof to reduce the frontal section and a new trunk that also looked for a better aerodynamic performance, the tail also reformed and did not respect the original lines. The colors of the cupe would no longer be the traditional blue that he used throughout most of his campaign, now his main sponsor blends blue with red.
In the tragic career of Olavaria in 1963 in which he died after an accident the coupe had new modifications in the engine to have higher performance and a new gearbox. The faithful cupe had already been sold to David Cetra, who destroyed it in an accident some time later, Juan had planned to continue with the modified '37, a car that Cetra also resorted to, which together with the parts that could be rescued from the '39 It turned out to be a hybrid, a car that also destroys a year later in the Sea & Sierras, finding death.
Juan Gálvez triumphed in 59 races en route. He was nine times Argentine Road Tourism Champion, a record never surpassed. He lost his life at age 47, in Vueltade Olavarría, on March 3, 1963, when he was fired from the machine. He had not worn a seatbelt since the day he saw another pilot burn down.

Of fine handling, polished, exact, never mistreated to the car that the same had armed, nor lost time locking it in the curves. He argued that "running in cars means walking slowly enough to get there before others" and often caused the disenchantment of the crowd that was crowding behind a dangerous curve. Other competitors passed by skidding, crossing the car, spinning ... Of course, people were delirious about the visual spectacle they offered, and when they saw Juan pass by with the blue Ford number one affirmed and without a hint of spectacularity, they asked disenchanted; "Is this the famous champion?" But the clocks at the end of the race, established their raw and unappealable truth: first, and comfortable.
JOURNALISM
When they asked Juan Gálvez what was his secret to winning so many races. Sketching a shy smile replied: - "Running at the lowest speed possible." Missing his interlocutors, they asked him again: - "How ...? What is the lowest possible speed ...?" To which the multiple champion with his proverbial calm responded: - "That is fixed by my rivals". He stressed wisely: - "I never try to win by much difference. So I'm going to waste the car if it's not necessary. I am the enemy of splurging what I find hard to put together. Setting up a motor means many hours of work in the workshop for me. So ... why am I going to win for an hour when I can do it for two minutes ...? "
HIS DEATH
New names appear that adhere to modern concepts. Young strong and with ample capacity, such as Emiliozzi, Marcos Ciani, Rodolfo de Alzaga, Carlos Menditeguy, Juan C. Navone, Armando J. Rios and many others who put more and more in trouble the multiple champion.
But his temper and competitive spirit, made him overcome. After the rollover in Pergamino during the dispute of the '60 Grand Prix, which made him practically inactive during a season, and despite the fatigue of years of tireless battle, he continued on his own and picked up the glove launched by the new generation, accepting the challenge once more.
With 47 years on his back, began the bell of '63 in the classic Olavarría, place of origin of his most bitter rival and the man to win at that time, Dante Emiliozzi, who was accompanied by his brother Torcuato.
Due to the rains of the previous day, the road was as Juan liked it - complicated. He started with No. 5 painted on its doors, and in the initial "top" given by the plane, it was already installed at the top for net time. At the first step by the control of arrival, Angel Meunier, Santiago Lujan Saigós and Armando J. Ríos had been left behind in the way, only the Emiliozzi resisted their advance. The route began to dry and the speed of "La Galera" began to discount land. Galvez, put everything and far from loosening, also increased the pace.
Third round. An easy "S" on the Road of the Chileans, the car that gets out of control and the turn that becomes an inevitable consequence, Juan Gálvez, who never tied himself for fear of fire, was dismissed from the car and the country's routes no longer They would know more of their exploits, they would not see the blue Ford with the invariable number one painted on the sides.
